I graduated in 2000 from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and moved directly to a tiny northern town in Australia.
Although I have never, ever stopped learning and growing as a chiropractor (I attended 12 seminars in 2019, obviously not in 2020) the first few years as a chiropractor are where you really dig in and begin to find out who you are. What do you have to offer? What are your gifts?
The real practice of chiropractic is so much more expansive and rich than anything you experienced in college.
Two weeks ago, I had a new patient; a six year old girl who had never been out of nappies. During the day, her bladder leaked constantly, and the minute she fell asleep in the car or couch or bed, her bladder let go fully. Never a dry night in 6 years.
She had every test and medication the medical profession could think to offer and nothing helped. As a last resort (as is so often the case) her mum brought her to see me. Her pelvis and lumbar spine and upper cervicals were under so much stress.
I adjusted these areas twice in that week and she has had only 2 wet nights and no leakage since.
On Saturday, I had a 13 year-old boy in because his mum was worried about his posture. It was dreadful. Along with the terrible posture, his eyes were unfocussed and roaming, and his face looked pinched, vague and grey.
After his adjustment, the first thing his mum said was "His face looks entirely different! Look at his eyes!”
His entire face had opened up, he looked bright and focussed. It was quite amazing, really.
So why am I telling you all of this?
There is so much beauty and miracle in chiropractic. Every single day, the gift you have in your hands will change lives. What is just an everyday thing you do, results in miracles for your patients. Some miracles are huge and some smaller, but miracles just the same.
When you start out in this profession, your first experiences can either show you the wonder of the gifts you have to offer your patients, or take the wonder and joy right out of you.
I've been practicing for 20 years and the wonder expands every day.
So many new grads want to stay in the city for the social aspects, but most new graduates struggle to build practices with little or no guidance and become disillusioned with chiropractic in the process.
I am looking for a bright, happy, kind, open young person who wants to learn and grow. I will introduce you to the wonders of this profession.
Geraldton is beautiful, the practice and staff are beautiful. We are busy.
